About Charleston Roofs and Windows, Serving Wando and the Cainhoy Peninsula
Charleston Roofs and Windows is a locally owned roofing, window, siding and gutter company that has served Lowcountry homeowners since January 2012, and Wando is part of our regular route.
Our office is in Ladson, roughly 22 miles from Wando by way of I-526, and Wando sits about 17 miles from downtown Charleston. Our crews are on the Cainhoy peninsula every week.
We are the same team behind our roofing company in Charleston page, with the same inspection standard and project managers.
Everyday Roofing in Wando
Most Wando calls are everyday roofing: a stain on a vaulted ceiling, a ridge cap that let go in a thunderstorm, or a pipe boot that cracked in the sun.
We find the leak from the attic and the roof, fix it when a fix will hold, and quote a replacement only when the roof is truly worn out. Emergency repairs get tarped first so the drywall stops taking water.
When a roof does need to come off, our crew strips it to the deck, swaps any soft decking and installs a complete Atlas Signature Select system. Most replacements finish in one day.
Storm Roofing in Wando
The other side of the job is storm roofing. Wando sits between the Wando River, the Cooper River and miles of pine forest, so wind, falling limbs and the occasional hailstorm all reach these roofs.
After a storm we tarp open roofs, document the damage you can't see from the yard, and restore the roof, gutters, siding and windows under one project manager.

The Truth About Hiring a Roofer in Wando (And How Charleston Roofs and Windows Handles It)
Hiring a roofer in Wando is harder than it looks, because the area grew faster than most contractors learned it.
Some roofers don't know whether your address is in the City of Charleston, unincorporated Berkeley County or Mount Pleasant. Others treat every new home like an old one and push a full replacement.
"We had been told we had a roof leak. I got 5 estimates. Eric with Chas Roofs took his time and explained everything that was going on and answered all of our questions."

The Problems Wando Homeowners Run Into
Builder-Grade Roofs on Brand New Homes
Production builders often install entry-level shingles, basic underlayment and the minimum number of roof vents. Those roofs look fine at closing and start showing wear years before you expect.
How Charleston Roofs and Windows Solves It
Our inspection managers check the attic ventilation, nailing, flashing and underlayment, not just the shingles. You get photos and a straight answer on whether to repair now or plan a replacement later.
Permits Filed With the Wrong Office
Wando is split between jurisdictions. A roofer who files with the wrong office, or skips the permit, can leave you with a stalled job or a problem when you sell.
How Charleston Roofs and Windows Solves It
We look up your parcel before we schedule, confirm which building department covers it, and pull the right permit for that office.
● One Address Check, Every Job
Your project manager confirms the permitting office, the HOA approval and the material spec before a single shingle is ordered.
Out-of-Town Crews After a Storm
After every named storm, door knockers work the newer subdivisions because the homes are close together and easy to canvass. Many are gone before a warranty question comes up.

Wando Weather and Storms: What Charleston Roofs and Windows Sees on Cainhoy Peninsula Roofs
Wando roofs take weather from two directions: tropical systems coming off the Atlantic and summer thunderstorms rolling across the pine woods of Berkeley County.
The Wando and Cooper rivers wrap the peninsula in tidal water, and the forest to the north drops limbs on roofs every time the wind picks up.

The Weather Threats That Matter Most for Wando Roofs
Falling Pine and Oak Limbs
Wando subdivisions were carved out of pine forest, and many lots back up to tall trees. A limb that drops in a 50 mph gust can crack decking, and pine straw packs gutters and valleys.
Wind-Driven Rain From Tropical Systems
Debby parked over the Lowcountry for days in 2024 and dropped more than 22 inches near Moncks Corner. Rain pushed sideways under weak flashing finds every gap a builder-grade roof left behind.
Hail and Summer Thunderstorms
Quarter-size hail near Cainhoy in April 2026 was a reminder that hail does reach the peninsula. Hail bruises shingles and knocks off granules, which shortens roof life even when nothing leaks yet.
How Charleston Roofs and Windows Builds Wando Roofs for This Weather
- Wind-rated nailing with sealed starter and ridge courses.
- Wind-design underlayment that meets the 2021 IRC as adopted in South Carolina.
- Algae-resistant Atlas Scotchgard Protector shingles for shaded, humid lots.
- Same-day tarping when a limb or gust opens your roof.

Wando Homes and Neighborhoods Charleston Roofs and Windows Roofs
Wando has some of the youngest housing in the Charleston area, and Charleston Roofs and Windows inspects it with that in mind.

In ZIP code 29492, which covers Wando, Cainhoy and Daniel Island, the median home was built in 2011. About 43 percent of homes went up in the 2010s, 37 percent in the 2000s, and about 10 percent since 2020 (Census ACS 2020 to 2024).
Few roofs here are old by age alone. The real risk is builder-grade installs from the 2000s nearing 20 years, and storm wear on 2010s roofs. With a median owner home value of $791,400, that roof protects a major investment.
